Scottsdale-based luxury home developer, Silver Sky Development, has announced a new custom-home enclave, Silver Sky, named in honor of the incredibly colorful sunsets viewed from it’s Mummy Mountain site. Silver Sky is a rare, pristine parcel, home to 12 sprawling, ultra-custom estate homes in Paradise Valley, Ariz. The last of its size in this exclusive area, nestled against Mummy Mountain with views of the McDowells and Four Peaks, was once owned by the legendary Cheney “ranch” family. It has sat untouched for more than 85 years.

The 17-acre community was unanimously approved by the Town of Paradise Valley Planning Commission and soon to be presented to the Town Council for consideration.

Silver Sky Development, comprised of Gordon Berry and Heriberto Velasquez, has also named its real estate team founding partners at RETSY | Forbes Global Properties: Chris Morrison, Shawna Warner, Babbi Gabel, and Kirk Linehan. “RETSY | Forbes Global Properties is excited to leverage Forbes’ global reach to introduce discerning buyers and real estate enthusiasts to Silver Sky’s innovative collection of showcase homes, as well as assist those who wish to create their own,” said Morrison.

“We appreciate the Town and neighbors for considering what we genuinely believe will become a treasured landmark in the fabric of this incredible and highly desirable community,” said Berry.  “Staying true to the integrity of the land was foremost in our minds as we worked diligently to create an iconic destination with our goal of making the special Town of Paradise Valley proud.”

“Seeing the majestic mountain views and breathtaking sunsets, we can only imagine how Merle Cheney, the original landowner, must have felt on first site. Bringing this special place to a select few to build their legacy is a promise we do not take lightly,” Berry added.

Paradise Valley can look forward to, and what is soon to be announced, the most well-curated collection of hand picked award winning and world class architects, designers and builder of signature residences. Silver Sky’s development team is committed to thoughtful environment stewardship and sustainability, as well as features that are focused on water and energy conservation. Silver Sky is destined to be the most celebrated place to live in Paradise Valley.

Paradise Valley is a town in Maricopa County, Ariz., and was incorporated in 1961. It is Arizona’s wealthiest municipality. The town is known for its luxury golf courses, shopping, real estate, and restaurant scene. According to the 2020 census, the population of the town was 12,658. Despite its relatively small area and population, compared to other municipalities in the Phoenix metropolitan area, Paradise Valley is home to nine full-service resorts, making it one of Arizona’s premier tourist destinations. It is also known for extremely high-end real estate and luxury homes.

Paradise Valley, a golf mecca and one of the most exclusive places to live, has earned a national reputation for its lavish mansions and opulent luxury lifestyle and is part of the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. It is home to five national sports franchises, hundreds of culinary experts including five James-Beard-award-winning chefs, the finest luxury resorts, and shopping in the west. Other notable world class events near Paradise Valley, include Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, World Championship Polo, and the Waste Management Golf Open.

In 1889, the Rio Verde Land Company sent three surveyors to Arizona, before it had even become a state. They were so taken by the beauty and the tranquility of the desert landscape that they named it Paradise Valley. The romance of the desert also attracted Merle Cheney, a retired chemist, who had purchased 160 acres of land and built a 7,000-square-foot adobe mansion.

In 1944, he sold the estate to the McCormick family, which later became the impetus for what is the largest master-planned community in Scottsdale, known as McCormick Ranch.  Appreciating the true value of Arizona wildlife and desert fauna, Merle also purchased a small enclave of land in Paradise Valley. This cherished parcel, with its magical mountain vistas and brilliant sunsets, will now be home for a select few who are looking to celebrate life surrounded by Mother Nature’s gifts.
