At the press conference, Hobbs was joined by DPS Director Jeffrey Glover, DEMA-EM Allen Clark, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, Yuma Mayor Douglas Nicholls, and Representative Mariana Sandoval.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe five-point approach is based on what we heard directly from these communities and is focused on public safety and humanitarian support,\u201d said Governor Hobbs. \u201cAdditionally, our approach will use all the state tools we have at our disposal to help border communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among those resources includes receiving assistance from the Department of Public Safety. \u201cThe Department of Public Safety is an agency that\u2019s here to assist and provide overall protection and to provide the assistance that\u2019s needed at the border and for our communities,\u201d said DPS Director Jeffrey Glover.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Governor\u2019s five-point approach includes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Public safety: DPS will assist local sheriffs and law enforcement to maintain safety and security on Arizona\u2019s highways and will prevent drugs like fentanyl from being entered into the state.<\/li>\n<li>Partnerships: The Governor\u2019s Office has developed a Joint Information Command where NGOs, federal agencies, local governments and tribal communities will be able to raise concerns, share updates and coordinate responses.<\/li>\n<li>Transportation: DEMA will assist, provide, and coordinate the best, most efficient, and safest mode of transportation for migrants to mitigate the impact of the increased migration on our border communities.<\/li>\n<li>Emergency shelter: DEMA will ensure migrants are sheltered while they await transportation.<\/li>\n<li>Executive Action: Governor Hobbs will activate state resources as needed and provide access to emergency resources if deemed necessary.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This preparedness approach is in response to Governor Hobbs\u2019 multiple visits to the border and border communities where she held a series of listening sessions with front line staff, healthcare providers and community leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernor Hobbs, I thank you not just for your pragmatic response, but more so for your humanitarian relief,\u201d said Sheriff Chris Nanos. \u201cThis is a humanitarian issue and we need to deal with it as such.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a national issue, and the federal government leadership has failed to make good on this national issue,\u201d said Yuma Mayor Nicholls. \u201cThis task is going to be too great; greater than anything we\u2019ve seen in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor too long, the situation at the border has been politicized, and words are seldom followed by meaningful action,\u201d Representative Mariana Sandoval said. \u201cI\u2019m happy to see Governor Hobbs refuses to play politics, and is willing to take action with a smart and tailored approach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Governor Hobbs has sent letters to President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas outlining specific actions that need to be taken.<\/p>\n<p>You can read full text of the letters <a href=\"https:\/\/azgovernor.us21.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=44a5186aac69c13c570fca36a&amp;id=2344e34d89&amp;e=b42fde1a7f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/azgovernor.us21.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D44a5186aac69c13c570fca36a%26id%3D2344e34d89%26e%3Db42fde1a7f&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1683670068774000&amp;usg=AOvVaw06cj2HbJjnKlEq6J9CZp7k\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ahead of the lifting of Title 42, Governor Hobbs today announced the state\u2019s five-point preparedness approach outlining Arizona\u2019s priorities for managing the expected influx of migrants.
