Google Fiber announced that they are opening sign-ups in for their first gigabit internet customers in Arizona.

Google Fiber broke ground in November in Mesa and is beginning to serve customers in just a few short months. The fiber optic connection is made of glass strands and uses light to transmit information at rates close to the speed of light, which provides a reliable connection with faster upload and download speed across multiple devices.

Google Fiber’s first Mesa customers are in the Westwood neighborhood, near University Drive and Alma School Road. Residents there will also be the first Google Fiber customers anywhere in the country to be able to sign up for the company’s 8 Gig product, available for $150 per month. The 8 Gig offers symmetrical uploads and downloads of up to 8000 MBps with a wired connection, along with a Wi-Fi 6 router (which allows for up to 800 MBps over Wi-Fi) and up to two mesh extenders. Residents can also choose Google Fiber’s flagship 1 Gig service for $70 per month, 2 Gig for $100 per month or 5 Gig for $125 per month.

Local Mesa businesses can also sign up for the Business 2 Gig service for $250 per month or the Business 1 Gig for $100 per month.

The company will continue to build out its network in Mesa, expecting the project to take about three years to complete, and has plans to start construction in Chandler later this year.

Mesa residents can sign up for regular updates here.
